What CRA Looks For
- Life-sustaining therapy required at least 3 times per week
- Total time for therapy (including preparation, administration, and recovery) of at least 14 hours per week
- Therapy is essential to sustain a vital function
- Without the therapy, the individual would not survive
- Condition must be prolonged (lasting at least 12 months)
Examples of Qualifying Situations
Type 1 diabetes requiring insulin therapy, blood glucose monitoring, and dietary management
Insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes with intensive management requirements
Kidney disease requiring regular dialysis treatments
Cystic fibrosis requiring daily respiratory therapy and medication management
Severe asthma requiring multiple daily treatments and monitoring
Why Applications Get Denied
- Time calculation does not include all eligible activities (preparation, monitoring, recovery)
- Medical practitioner underestimates the total weekly time commitment
- Form does not clearly describe the life-sustaining nature of the therapy
- Insufficient detail about the frequency and duration of therapy sessions
- Dietary management time not properly documented
